Groklaw - 10th Circuit Affirms in All Respects - Novell, Not SCO, Owns the Copyrights, etc., by pj
Please let this mean that SCO will go away and never return to bother the *NIX community again. Novell probably should never have had to fight this suit, but I’m glad that the US Appeals Court has confirmed the rulings against SCO. Click through to get a link to read all the rulings in the case, and HT Slashdot for the link.
In case you don’t know, SCO stopped being a technology company at some point and just turned into a *NIX copyright troll. Complicating the issue was the fact that, at some point, public domain and non-profit organizations ended up with some of the patents and trademarks related to UNIX a long time ago, including X.org among them. However, certain active patents passed on to Novell when they acquired SUSE way back when (when certain big companies were “buying” open source projects and distributions, otherwise known as investing…but hey, let the tech journo’s have their way with it).
In any case, SCO’s got nowhere to go from here except to die ignominiously in the trash heap of tech companies gone horribly wrong.
