The Hunter houses the beginnings
Of life and spans the vastness
Between the stars and holds
The universe in microcosm.
Lonely explorer of the sky
Makes a rendezvous
With the night-bringing
Horizon, fading.
The raw forces of nature
Birth stars and blow apart
The gas and dust of uncharted
Regions lit by impact.
Streaming southern glow
Of atmospheric effects
Limns the haunted sky,
Ripped apart and remade.
A swirling exchange
Of stars and nebulae
Between old friends
Is always new again.
Merovingian lineage
Glimpsed only briefly
In the cold light
Of minor encounters.
One is unnamed
The other is mother
Of the new gods
Circling the rings
Of their brother.
A glittering jewel
Fades in the distance
And fortells
Our fate.
